Anthems for Authors – Mr. Writer

This song by Stereophonics is really not my cup of tea, but I found the premise behind the song quite intriguing. It seems (according to Wikipedia) that it “was written in response to a journalist who had toured with the band and had later given them negative reviews.” Just goes to show, if you piss off a writer, you’ll either end up in a book or a song, and not in a good way.

Here is Mr. Writer by Stereophonics.

Anthems for Authors – Writers Block

I think this song and the video do a perfect job describing a writer’s mind during “writers block.” While I personally don’t believe that exists (it’s fear – of what, depends on the author), I do see these sorts of non-sensical brain meanderings as typical when an author is procrastinating or confused about writing a scene.

Without further ado, here is Just Jack singing Writers Block.

Anthems for Authors – Outlaw Blues

“You wrote the book with the movie in mind…”

I love that line. I love the isolated feel of the lyrics. That feeling sort of defines indie publishing at times, doesn’t it? You can thank the incomparable Pat Benatar for this one. Outlaw Blues.

Anthems for Authors – Wrapped up in Books

This song, Wrapped up in Books, by Belle and Sebastian makes me want to put my smart librarian glasses on, get a bunch of college students, and film a video in a library. Each student could be reading a different book (since I’ve authored more than twenty at this point) and how cute would that be? I just need to find a band who could write a song and work my titles in and…oh well, never mind. That sounds like too much work. I’ll just sit back and enjoy their video instead.
