Author Carol Wyer Radio Interviews!

Friend and author Carol Wyer was interviewed on BBC Radio Nottingham last night. She talks about her book, Mini Skirts and Laughter Lines:

Desperate housewife Amanda Wilson can’t decide between murder, insanity and another glass of red wine. Her shelf life is up. Not only is she facing 50 but she hasn’t had sex with her morose husband for over a year. She really shouldn’t have pressed that ‘send’ button. They say your past always catches up with you – still, her colourful past is far more exciting than her monochrome present.

Mini Skirts and Laughter Lines is Carol’s first in a series of novels, lampooning and harpooning the aging process.

Carol is an avid social net-worker, and is also the comedic mastermind behind the blog Facing 50 with Humour. Among her American fans, she has been given the nickname BOTUK (Bombeck Of the UK) for her humorous style.

Aside from her writing, Carol has spent the last decade trying out all sorts of new challenges such as kick boxing, diving, flying helicopters (yes that is her with the whirlybird in the photo), learning to paint, and attempting to teach herself Russian.

Carol says she’s now ensuring that her fifties are “fab not drab.”  She reports that this is all much to the dismay of her “. . . neglected husband who has to put up with ready-made meals and a very dusty house.”

Her entertaining BBC interview is in two parts. You can listen to part one here, and part two here. Both segments are short, but entertaining. Totally worth it if for nothing more than to just hear her accent!

Mini Skirts and Laughter Lines is available in print from Amazon US, Amazon UK, and Barnes and Noble (among many other retailers) or in multiple e-book formats from Smashwords.

Inknbeans Press Signs Vickie Johnstone!

Author Vickie Johnstone

Another one bites the bean. Friend and author Vickie Johnstone just signed with Inknbeans Press.  This follows closely on the heels of Vickie sharing a sneak peek of her latest title, Kiwi and the Living Nightmare here on Indies Unlimited. Coincidence? You decide!

I caught up with Vickie while she was out at a local marina, shopping for yachts (as far as you know).  She said, “I’m really excited to be joining the Beans. Have you seen their website? There is a menu of different book flavours, like the board in a coffee shop, and they care about their authors. I’m hoping my books blend right in!! I was so happy when my contract turned up in the post. I had been looking out for the letter for days and then there it was! I was like yay, yay, yay! I’ve been grinning like the Cheshire Cat. It’s really exciting. I was feeling a bit lost on what to do next about my books. I love writing, but find everything else a bit tough. Groups like Book Junkies and the Indie Author Group are amazing for boosting confidence, helping, tips, support, meeting people who are obsessed with the same thing (!) and general laughter! I think all writers need that. Now, I’m just really happy that Jo likes my books and Inknbeans are happy to take them on. Kiwi is purring.”

We wish Vickie continued success, and look forward to hearing more from her as her work with Inknbeans progresses.

Amulet is Now Unleashed!

Congratulations to friend and author Nancy Lee Parish! She  shared the news that her long-awaited debut novel is now released and available at Smashwords and Amazon!

“Amulet” is the first in her “DragonBlade” series. She describes the book as an adventure with fantasy elements, most of which she says are not typical in epic fantasies. As Nancy explains it, “I use a wide variety of characters, everything from a stoic inventor/wizard to a burly, gruff, yet kindhearted, axe – wielding farmer who has a soft spot for baby dragons, and just about everything in between. There’s even a mini dachshund who fancies himself fearless and adored by all the ladies. Mixed into the ‘lightness’ are those who live with regret and heartache, and those who would build a better world.”
