How Indies Unlimited Works

Indies Unlimited LogoOver the short time since its inception, Indies Unlimited has become one of the most heavily trafficked websites for people interested in indie writing, publishing, marketing, and reading. We’re honored that so many people are saying so many great things about us.

With the word spreading, this means we encounter a lot of new folks who have never seen anything quite like Indies Unlimited and who don’t know quite what to make of it.

We thought it might be nice to provide a sort of guided tour, so people could get a better handle on what our site is about, what we do, and what we don’t do. Continue reading “How Indies Unlimited Works”

What would you do if your friend’s murderer might get paroled?
After learning that the man who brutally raped and murdered her high school friend has an upcoming parole hearing, Katy McKenna sets out to make sure this doesn’t happen, not realizing she might die trying.

Book Excerpt:

“Well look who’s back.”

Lifting my head to the voice shot piercing darts of pain through my head. A woman was kneeling in front of me, and there was a seeping, bloody gash across her cheek. It took a moment to connect the dots, and when I did, my terror ratcheted up several notches.

“What are you doing here?” I swallowed my ramping panic and spoke as softly as possible to avoid jarring my scrambled brain.

She pulled a chair up to me and sat. “You’ve been a naughty girl and I’m here to punish you.” My skin crawled as she carefully looped the pink scarf around my neck. “There, now don’t you look pretty?” She tilted her head and flashed a smile that didn’t extend to her glassy, off-kilter eyes.

Was she going to strangle me again, only this time, finish the job?

Be Ready for that Media Opportunity

One thing I’ve learned about this industry is that opportunities come up in a flash, and usually the first people to respond get them. The difference between being prepared and NOT being prepared can cost you. And it’s literally as simple as being organized.

I have a folder in Dropbox with all my book cover jpgs, my two author photos and a couple of other folders with high resolution versions and thumbnail size versions. (I keep it on Dropbox so I can access it from virtually anywhere. You never know when you will be asked for something!) I’ve made sure they’re all named clearly, so it’s easy for the recipient to identify. It also helps, if they don’t rename the file, with search engine optimization. It never hurts to take advantage of every opportunity to get your title in front of someone. Plus, it looks far more professional to have the book cover for Night Undone labeled as “NightUndone.jpg” instead of “niteundonecoverartsmall.jpg”. My author photo is labeled as “AuthorKSBrooks.jpg” instead of  “DSC00013”. Now, you might be thinking, I’ll just put “Author Photo” as the file name. Well, you and about a billion other authors thought that. It’s not going to make your photo easy to find. Continue reading “Be Ready for that Media Opportunity”
