Book Brief: Seized

Seized: Book One of the Pipe Woman Chronicles
by Lynne Cantwell

Genre: Urban fantasy
Word count: 64,000

The winter solstice 2012 won’t be the end of the world. It will be the beginning of the end….

Naomi has a pretty sweet life. Respected as a skilled mediator, she has an almost uncanny knack for getting people on both sides of a dispute to agree. And her handsome boyfriend Brock has just proposed to her. But a white buffalo calf is bowing to her in her dreams. And who is the Native American man who has been following her around?

Naomi doesn’t know it, but things are about to change….

This title is available from Amazon, Smashwords and Barnes and Noble.

Lynne, how did you come up with the title for your book? Does it have any special meaning?
The original title was “Knowledge” – until I realized nobody in her right mind would buy an urban fantasy with that title. Then I thought of being seized by the knowledge of something, and realized “seized” had a number of layers of meaning in relation to the book.

Who was your favorite character and why?
I’m kind of partial to Joseph’s roommate George, mainly because my editor tried to convince me to cut him out of the story. He’s only in a few scenes. But he gives Naomi a window into Joseph that she can’t get from anyone else. Plus he’s fun to write.

Does your book have any underlying theme, message, or moral?
Maybe by the time I finish writing book 5, I will have the answer to this question nailed down. Right now, not so much.

What would/could a reader or reviewer say about your writing that shows they “get” you as an author?
I’d love for readers to trust me on the religion theme. Naomi’s never been a strong Christian and right now she’s questioning her beliefs. Some have interpreted that as being “anti-Christian.” I think it makes her a more interesting character. And it doesn’t mean God will ultimately “lose.”

Give us an excerpted quote from your favorite review of this book:
Seized is a unique, entertaining and thought provoking read that draws the reader in with its vividness, Native American myths, excellent character developments and ability to question everything…
