Our Gift to You: Knowledge and Author Humor

snowflake holiday shopping timeHere at Indies Unlimited, we’ve been taking pride in supporting the indie author community for more than six years. We’ve won accolades and honors, and those are great – but that’s not why we do it. We do it to help others – to prevent them from being preyed upon by vanity presses, and to save newbie authors from struggling to figure out how to publish.

Everyone at IU – minions past and present – works for free. And not only do they work for free here on the blog, but many of them put themselves out there and give self-publishing seminars free of charge. This is, indeed, a wonderful community.

And speaking of free – yes, IU is free, but we do incur quite a lot of expenses each year maintaining this monstrosity of a superblog. If you want to help out, you can donate through PayPal, or you can simply click through on a Thrifty Thursday book (or a book in the sidebar) and then make some purchases on Amazon. Every little bit helps.

In the spirit of free – here’s a little something I put together this year to help authors. I hope you enjoy the video – and all of us here at IU hope you are never “that guy.”

Happy Holidays to you and yours.

Authors Should Check Holiday Closures When Planning December Releases, Sales

indie publishing calendar-660670_1280With consumers on the hunt for Christmas gifts in December, many authors decide to run sales around the holidays. However, self-published authors wanting to take advantage of this buying season need to plan ahead, so holiday closures don’t derail planned price changes.

Just as schoolchildren and employees are off for the holidays, so are some of the retailers where books are sold. This means retailers may not be open when you’re ready to discount your books. While you can expect the usual of Christmas and New Year’s Day closures, some authors might be surprised to find the holiday hours for backend changes are quite sparse. (Most online retailers maintain normal 24-hour operations for those who are making online purchases.) Continue reading “Authors Should Check Holiday Closures When Planning December Releases, Sales”

Happy Holidays to All of You from All of Me

Bob Hammond holidayThat’s right, happy holidays to you, whatever you celebrate. I don’t mean to frighten you, but I’ve noticed recently that there seems to be a lot of electricity and fire involved in these holiday celebrations. That sounds dangerous. Of course, I’m not worried, as Danger is my middle name, which you may have read in my novel, Bob Hammond: Living Dangerously.

In any case, with all that fire danger around, I wanted to tell you about my gift to you this holiday season. That’s right, little people, I actually did do something with you in mind. Considering the open flames of candelabra thingies, fireplaces, and tangled and frayed electrical cords going to and from your peasant-like decorations, having paper around is a serious and possibly catastrophic hazard. So I’ve re-released all my “dead tree books,” as you people call them, as eBooks! I know, that’s amazingly thoughtful, right?

That’s right, this holiday season, you can give yourself the firesafe gift of Bob Hammond in electronic book for Kindle, Nookie, Kobra or something, and whatever else other contraption you can read eBooks on.

So, happy holidays, folks. And stay safe with an eBook from Bob Hammond. The life you save may be your own.
