Meet the Author: Barbara Ebel

Author Barbara Ebel

Physician and author Barbara Ebel has had multiple careers and multiple tragedies in her life. She weaves those themes into her fiction writing as well as characters she renders  from people she’s known, ranging from the gentle-hearted and the downright despicable. However, what makes her fiction writing unusual is the palpably credible medical knowledge with which she infuses her stories. She wants readers to enjoy her book, but also to learn something.

She says, “Since I am a physician and practiced anesthesia, my surgical, anesthesia, and OR scenes shine with accurateness. For instance, an Amazon UK customer commented on his review that he thought he could perform a liver transplant after reading Outcome, A Novel: There’s more than a hurricane coming. And after reading Operation Neurosurgeon: You never know…who’s in the OR, a reader can understand the pressure dynamics inside the skull and why that’s important. At the same time, the reader will be involved with a cunning interplay of characters during a brain surgery.” Continue reading “Meet the Author: Barbara Ebel”

Sneak Peek: John Barlow’s Hope Road

Today we get a sneak peek of author John Barlow’s newest novel, the first release in the LS9 Crime Series –  Hope Road:

Hope Road by John BarlowJohn Ray, son of crime boss Antonio ‘Tony’ Ray, is the straight one of the family. With a successful business and a lifestyle to match, he wants nothing to do with his father’s criminal world. But what does that world want with him?

A young prostitute is found dead in John’s car, and Freddy Metcalfe, his best friend and employee, is framed for her death. Freddy denies everything but it’s an open and shut case: he’s going down for murder. John sets out to find the real killer.

But things get complicated. A stash of counterfeit money was also found in John’s car, and the police seem more interested in that than in the dead girl. Then Lanny Bride turns up; one of the north’s most ruthless criminals (and an old friend of the Ray family), Lanny is desperate to know who killed the girl. But why? Meanwhile, Freddy is too scared to talk to anyone, even his lawyer. Continue reading “Sneak Peek: John Barlow’s Hope Road”

Why Do You Write?

I have had interviews and read interviews that pose this question. Having borne witness to a number of answers that go something like I cannot envision life without writing, writing is in my soul, writing is who I am, etc., I decided not to include that question in my interviews.

I have some bad news for you. The world does not care a whit who you are. You are one voice among billions. Go ahead and declare yourself to the world. You will find the world indifferent.

Neither do I find such an answer very illuminating.  It tells me nothing of interest. Perhaps the fault lies in the question itself. Continue reading “Why Do You Write?”
